Pagination

Say goodbye to scrolling.

Turn your pages with a single mouse or key click.

Resize pages in both height and width. Control all elements of the page with ease: line, paragraph, word and letter spacing, indents etc. Your pages can never "disappear" below the viewing boundary: text simply flows over to the next page.

Formatting

The formatting options for your text are completely exhaustive. No matter how text can be formatted by a computer, writoro has it covered.

You can change everything down to the space between letters and the heaviness of the font. Column height and width are easily switchable. Plus we do font kerning.

Colors - font, background, highlighting - all fully configurable.

Selection of text is state of the art - every which way you can think of selecting text, we do it.

Keyboard shortcuts: you betcha.

Printing

How important is printing! writoro's motto says it all:

"WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU PRINT"

This means that what you compose and format on the screen gets replicated as close as possible in the output pdf. So you can compose and shape your text visually and send the output pdf directly to your printer or publisher of choice with confidence that your design will be faithfully preserved.

Self publishing

writoro's "print to pdf" is practically all you need if you are going to self-publish your work. But for that complete control, for any post-processing of the text, the raw latex file is output as standard with the pdf. Perfect for working with your book editor or graphics designer.

If you want to self-publish you need to self-design. And for this you need writoro.

Help

Did we mention context-sensitive help?
Right click on any menu item and you're shown a full rundown on its capabilities.

Spellchecking

For those who don't like being interrupted by red squiggly lines, we have good news for you. We don't do it that way. Spellchecking in writoro is strictly on-demand. You write your text, then hit "spellcheck", and the whole text is spell-checked in one go. Simple, unobtrusive. No squiggly lines to interrupt your thought processes.

Sidenotes and footnotes

Sidenotes and footnotes get printed to the pdf as they should.
Sidenotes stay exactly next to their links on the screen, even when you change page sizes, font sizes, etc.

What else

Everything you'd expect of a good word processor: undo/redo, cut-copy-paste, lists, dark mode, drop caps, image inserting, smart quotes, read-only mode, links, bookmarks, font and background coloring, etc, etc.

Are you a google docs user? If so, we have good news: we're over 70% compatible (most main features covered) and aiming for over 90% compatibility by mid 2023. Not bad, considering we offer over 40 features that docs doesn't have.

User interface

writoro's user interface is clean and swift, designed to enhance your writing experience and help you focus on the text.

For a minimalistic look, toolbars and status bar can be switched on/off with one click or keystroke - writing could not be more distraction-free.

Like it old school? Switch to typewriter mode and your typing cursor stays fixed with the text scrolling sideways. You even hear the keys clicking.

If you need to focus on that one tricky sentence, just select it and make the surrounding text invisible.

Mouse a hindrance? Dispense with it and use keyboard-only mode.

Even better, sit back, fold your arms and dictate your text.

Now for some really cool stuff.

writoro does tense changing (present-past and reverse). This is a huge boon for fiction writers. No more tedious retyping to get two versions. The transformations are pretty much instant with a single click. And with a further click you can switch back and forth between the versions for comparison. Plus you get the choice of saving the changes with the file, or saving to two different versions.

This is the first of a series of natural language capabilites planned for writoro. Including grammar checking.

So, why no scrolling? All word processors scroll, right?

They do. But consider this. Scrolling is not how you read a book, and it needn't be the way you write one either.

Other word processors don't do pagination because pagination is difficult.

writoro presents a beautifully simple 2 pane interface, which can be switched to a single pane with a click (or, if you insist, to a scrolling interface also). It simulates your final printed book-output faithfully.
